Phillip A.J. Hodgson

Phillip is a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, holding a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Master’s Degree from De Montfort University in Transpersonal Counselling and Psychotherapy. He is a member of the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists.

Phillip has a broad experience of working in a number of different areas and with different cases. Apart from his own private practice, he has also worked with Victim Support, the Help Advisory Centre, and the Association for the Blind. He also assists in the supervision of students of counselling and psychotherapy.

His particular areas of interest are men’s work, dependency, depression and life journey work, using visualization, creative imagination and traditional psychotherapy techniques, in both long term therapy and brief therapy.

His thesis for his Master’s degree was focused on the expectations and projections that a client has prior to the first session of transpersonal psychotherapy. This has given him an appreciation of what clients may initially be going through when approaching therapy.

His other interests include writing, literature, poetry, sport and film, and has had poems published in Cygnus magazine and by UNESCO.

As co-founder of Emergence, he is an active advocate for the values of counselling and psychotherapy, and believes that counselling and psychotherapy have an important role to play in contributing to the welfare of the community and the environment, as well as individuals’ welfare.
